Not only is Steel Design a revision of LRFD Steel Design, it also encompasses the 2005 unification of LRFD and ASD as is covered in the Steel Construction Manual. The book is designed so that instructors can easily teach either LRFD or ASD, or both, time-permitting, as the differences in the two approaches are mostly conceptual. The application of fundamental principles is encouraged for design procedures as well as for practical design, but so is a theoretical approach, enhancing the students development. While the book is intended for junior-and senior-level engineering students, some of the later chapters can be used in graduate courses. Due to the changes that were made to many provisions of the Steel Construction Manual, practicing engineers will find this text useful in reviewing current practices and it will be an essential reference tool. | | | |

I purchased this book because I wanted to study for the PE exam, and this book is just great, very simply to understand, there are good examples and the theory behind it is just well explained. I would definitely recommend this book to whoever is looking for a refresh in steel design.

Good textbook Mar 12, 2010
By Hamid Mahmoodi
"peja"
The author of this textbook does a very good job of simplifying complex topics and design procedures in steel. This textbook does fail on explaining the theory and mechanics of steel members, which I believe is very important in design. If you simply just want to learn the design procedures of steel members, this is an excellent textbook. However, if you want to learn the theory and mechanics of steel members, I would not buy this book. This book also contains many mistakes, so if you do buy it, be sure to view the errata from the publishers website.
