Buy a different book Apr 14, 1999 This book exemplifies the the way a book should not be written. The examples, writing techniques and homework problems in this book are extremely difficient. Numerical mistakes seem to be everywhere in this book. The examples are far from real world application. Very little theory about reinforced concrete is in this book. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Book has far too many errors Dec 08, 2000 This book has some useful information. However, like all of Dr. Nawy's books, it is very poorly written and contains far too many errors to be considered a useful text. For reinforced concrete, MacGregor (4th edition) is a much better investment. For prestressed concrete, try Collins & Mitchell.

Students Watch Out! Dec 05, 1998 This book portrays concrete design in a cookbook fashion with little emphisis on actually understanding the material. The explinations that are given are wordy and not clear. While this book might be considered a good refrence book, I would not recomend it for students.

The joy of Civil Engineering May 29, 2001
By Ziad Chalhoub Reinforced concrete is the corner stone of our civil engineering profession, making it interesting is where the hardship lies. Dr. Nawy, along with his book made it seem like a breeze. He made the course both enjoyable and interesting and enhanced my confidence in going out to the real world to face my job. I learnt alot about my profession from him and even mentioning his name as one of my professors has given me a whole lot! I am grateful i was one of his students. Thank you Dr. Nawy and Good Luck to you! P.S. The quality of a book should not be rated according to typing errors, it is a weak and cheap attempt of bad publicity. I am sure Dr. Nawy does not have control over what the editor decides should be printed or not. But its natural, if they aren't up there, then they try to bring down everyone else who is, grudges and jealousy make people go a long terrible way.

To complex for beginners. Sep 17, 1998 I would not recommend this book for beginners. The problems are to complex and the flow charts can be hard to understand. This book may be a valuble tool for one who already knows the fundamentals about concrete design, but since it was my first class I did not enjoy this book at all. I found Nawy's sample problems assumed the reader knew to much and they left out many steps.
