A strong foundation in reservoir rock and fluid properties is the backbone of almost all the activities in the petroleum industry. Petroleum Reservoir Rock and Fluid Properties offers a reliable representation of fundamental concepts and practical aspects that encompass this vast subject area.

The book provides up-to-date coverage of various rock and fluid properties using derivations, mathematical expressions, and various laboratory measurement techniques. Focused on achieving accurate and reliable data, it describes coring methods used for extracting samples from hydrocarbon formations and considerations for handling samples for conventional and special core analyses.

Detailing properties important to reservoir engineering and surface processing, the author emphasizes basic chemical and physical aspects of petroleum reservoir fluids, important phase behavior concepts, fluid sampling, compositional analysis, and assessing the validity of collected fluid samples. The book also presents PVT equipment, phase behavior analysis using laboratory tests, and calculations to elucidate a wide range of properties, such as hydrocarbon vapor liquid equilibria using commonly employed equations-of-state (EOS) models.

Covering both theoretical and practical aspects that facilitate the solution of problems encountered in real life situations, Petroleum Reservoir Rock and Fluid Properties is ideal for students in petroleum engineering, including those coming from different backgrounds in engineering. This book is also a valuable reference for chemical engineers diversifying into petroleum engineering and personnel engaged in core analysis, and PVT and reservoir fluid studies.

4Dandekar - Petroleum Reservoir ....Properties  Oct 26, 2009 By Wayne Ahr "Oldies Fan"
I bought this book as a source for material in my graduate courses in reservoir characterization and reservoir geology. There are no single, good references for my courses in the geological literature. Most, as this one, are in the petroleum engineering literature. I read some selections from this book online [fortunately that is possible now] and found that it is a readable text, it's well organized, and the level of difficulty is not too high. I may assign sections for class reading but mainly I will incorporate in my own lectures some of the concepts, ideas for homework problems, and additional references. The strong points of this book are: 1) it reads well, 2) it's pretty easily understandable to someone with a background in the subject, and 3) it is written as a textbook with exercises and examples. The weak points are: 1) because this text is on rocks and fluids, a lot of the material on fluids and fluid properties is not helpful for my courses that focus mainly on rock and petrophysical characteristics, 2) the price is a little high for students, and 3) I'm not sure it's widely marketed and generally available.

4half of the thing I expected to find!  Oct 24, 2011 By Cyrus
The book doesn't have that many numeric examples in it! It is though useful for a Petroleum Engineer, the literature is more strong than the mathematical part.

5the book is good  Sep 28, 2010 By harry311
the book is good. the quality is good. it mentions a lot on fluid properties in petroleum reservoir. not too hard to understand.

4Oilfield Rock and Fluid Tests Explained  Jun 01, 2010 By Dr. Eric
The book "Petroleum Reservoir Rock and Fluid Properties" is an excellent reference for practical understanding of the laboratory tests performed to characterize petroleum reservoir rock and fluids. The book has sufficient detail to be used for a classical undergraduate text, or a reference in the laboratory where such tests are performed. It is logically organized, easy to follow, and well illustrated.

5nice product  Feb 14, 2010 By Ali Alessa "theplodder"
