Broken into four parts, this book covers the full scope of petroleum production engineering, featuring stepwise calculations and computer-based spreadsheet programs. Part one contains discussions of petroleum production engineering fundamentals, empirical models for production decline analysis, and the performance of oil and natural gas wells. Part two presents principles of designing and selecting the main components of petroleum production systems including: well tubing, separation and dehydration systems, liquid pumps, gas compressors, and pipelines for oil and gas transportation. Part three introduces artificial lift methods, including sucker rod pumping systems, gas lift technology, electrical submersible pumps and other artificial lift systems. Part four is comprised of production enhancement techniques including, identifying well problems, designing acidizing jobs, guidelines to hydraulic fracturing and job evaluation techniques, and production optimization techniques.
*Provides complete coverage of the latest techniques used for designing and analyzing petroleum production systems
*Increases efficiency and addresses common problems by utilizing the computer-based solutions discussed within the book

Well Done Nov 09, 2010
By David Brainovic I give the book five stars for being a great reference tool for young engineers. It includes most practical information, is well organized, and comes with a excel spreadsheets with basic production engineering solutions. The text is a concentration of applied production engineering fundamentals. I like the style of the book where derivations have a nicely thought out flow that goes to the point, the end equation that I can use, but maintains balance in including relevant steps to get there. Again, I see this book to have advantage foremost as a reference text to younger engineers. The SPE bookstore has focused texts for advanced production engineering that are more suitable for veteran engineers, who probably already have texts with information of the subject book.

Practical and excellent excel programs Apr 29, 2009
By Juan J. Fernandez I think what makes this book excellent for the engineer in the field, is the fact that you have the equations, derivations and methods explained in a very friendly manner, and the examples are included in the excel programs which make it easy to follow it and change the data to adapt the problems to different situations. I totally recommend the book. One recommendation would be to include more artificial lift methods in a new edition.
Review Sep 02, 2008
By Carlos P. Bastardo You can follow the book through the CD which helps a lot in many cases, but it would be more interesting to have all the memory space of the CD dedicated to examples. The graphs are excelent and the worked examples really helpful.
