Entire book and illustrative examples have been edited extensively, and several chapters repositioned.
* Imperial units are used instead of SI units in many of the examples and problems, particularly those of a nonlinear nature that have strong implications for design, since the SI system has not been fully assimilated in practice.

3Not a good introductory book for matrix structural analysis  Jan 01, 2010 By Hamid Mahmoodi "peja"
This textbook is more of reference textbook for someone who has already learned the fundamentals of matrix structural analysis. If you have never taken a course on matrix structural analysis and you are looking to learn the fundamentals, do not get this book. The authors wrote the book assuming the reader already has a background in the subject; most of the examples skip a lot of steps and are presented with little explanation. If you are looking for a good book on the fundamentals of matrix structural analysis, I highly recommend "Matrix Analysis of Framed Structures, by Weaver and Gere, 3rd edition."

5Must have if you work with non-linear frame structures  Nov 05, 2010 By Steven "engineer102"
This is one of the best books that I have come across on matrix structural analysis. The sections on non-linear topics are excellent. I can see where the book might be a little too advanced for someone with only a sophomore year mechanics of materials course completed, in that case there are other books that are cheaper and cover the basics in more detail.

5Best Frame Analysis book I've seen  Sep 10, 2007 By J. Plummer
This is a well written and easy to understand book on structural analysis. More advanced than a typical undergraduate book, yet it presents the more advanced material so clearly that it could easily be used for an undergraduate course or a refernce for a practicing engineer.

Don't expect much on plate or solid elements as this is primarily a reference for frame analysis. But, for that topic, it's the best book I've seen and I've seen a lot of them.

5In depth textbook for a great price  Dec 31, 2011 By D. Stanley
This book was written about 20 years before the newer version that you can buy new for about $250 or used for a hundred. I paid about $10 for the 1979 Ed.; it's in great condition for a used book; the previous owner either was super careful with it or dropped the class. I'm an engineer - hoped it would help me use MASTAN to analyse non-linear semi-rigid frame connections (pallet racks) but no luck there. Probably the new edition covers that but I'm too broke. MASTAN did the job anyway. 5 stars anyway because it's one of the best math texts I've ever seen. The authors have a deep understanding of the subject - they're not just copying from something else and it shows. I'm not great at math so I like the matrix method - it's easier. Wish I had time to study this but I have to work - plus I'd rather play Pro Street...

4Good reference  Nov 21, 2011 By Manish Kumar "Maks"
It's a nice reference for Nonlinear structural analysis, however as an introductory matrix structural analysis there are better books out there like Nelson and Felton. I like how author has explained a very complicated subject in a very simple language. I would recommend this book if you plan to use it for nonlinear structural analysis as well.
