5An excellent resource and an unusually easy read  Jul 27, 2006 By Alan Nitikman "aka Alan August"
There are dozens of internet resources for those of us looking for definitions of oil & gas terminology, so I thought a "handbook of terms & phrases" would be redundant. But there's no substitute for deep knowledge and good, clear writing. Langenkamp is a sharp guy and, according to the bio at the back, a former speechwriter and public relations rep for Gulf oil, after 40 years in the business. That explains the clarity, precision, and actual personality and -- amazingly (where appropriate) -- a sense of humor. He includes terms like 'On the big sprocket - Said of a person who is moving in influential circles or has suddenly gone from a small job to one of considerably larger responsibility..." But he also covers the nitty-gritty, from "Adamantine" and "Catworks" on down to "One, Four Diaalkyluminoanthroquinone" and helpful concepts like "102 gas," a mnemonic for remembering to sections of the Natural Gas Policy Act of 1978. OK, that doesn't sound exciting, but, when you have to know this stuff, it's nice to have someone along who knows what they're talking about and does it well. Thanks, Robert D.
