In this revision of a popular book, the best-selling author provides a new theme for the real-world engineering and scientific examples and problems used throughout the book. Solutions to the problems are developed using the language C and the author's signature five-step problem solving process. Centered around a theme of oceans and their role in the complex interactions of environment, the book enables readers to solve real-world and scientific problems. Four types of exercises are presented to develop problem-solving skills - Practice! problems, Modify! problems, Short-Answer problems, and Programming problems. Coverage of essential features that are needed to write reusable C code are included such as C structures and pointers. The book also provides an introduction to object-oriented programming and C++. For engineers and scientists who want to use ANSI C to solve practical engineering and scientific problems.

5An Enlightening Book with C!  Aug 03, 2000
The book presents many ready-to-use problem solving methodologies using the C language. This is a great book for those who would like to write the classical engineering or scientific applications.

3A disappointment  Jan 29, 2001
What should have been a definitive work on classical C programming is seriously flawed by the presence of dozens and dozens of errors. The basic idea is excellent: that is, to relate the learning of C to real life engineering applications. A good editor could have made this an excellent text.

4Great Book! Helps a LOT!  Sep 30, 2011 By Nate
This book is a great book. I had to get this book for an engineering class I am currently taking, and so far this book has been great. Provides many examples and solutions. It makes it easy to learn C coding. Coding is not always easy but this book is just one more thing to make it more simple. I recommend this book! Even if it is not a recent book, it still works. C coding does not change much, so modern books you pay more for might not be worth your extra $$$. Great useful book!

5Excellent Book for Engineers  Oct 30, 2008 By Todd B. Anderson
Over the past 10 years, I have recommended this book to engineers who are trying to learn C and apply it to control situations. I learned "embedded C" from this book.

Especially interesting to me were some "out of the box" concepts that Dr. Etter introduces, such as structure charts in chapter 4.

The methodology for problem solving is another example - a concept that engineers can grasp.

Her notes on Style and Debugging are tremendous!

I go back to this book often when I am working with C code.

4Got What I Needed  Feb 12, 2010 By D. Wang
Although the front cover was a bit ripped and everything, the insides were still good. This book was required for a C-programming class that I am currently taking in college. Content-wise, it is pretty easy to understand. They give you example programs throughout the book so it is easy to grasp the topic at hand.
