Over priced Jul 07, 2010
By bookman This book is okay as a reference book to help you learn Matlab beyond just the basic
language features. However, you will need another book as the
main text to learn numerical methods. Be warned that each chapter touches the
subject in a very superficial way. The book also feels quite thin at your hand. For $127, this is
outrageously over priced. $30-35? Maybe. I teach numerical methods in a college. I will
never recommend this book to my students because I do not want them to get ripped off.

had to learn MatLab Sep 29, 2008
By JoeBoone I have to learn MATLAB for a current course. Good book with example problems. The assignment problems at the end of the chapters can be pretty difficult though. I would have liked to see the book come with a student version of MatLab. Nobody I know has MatLab for their personal use, and I have to go to the university every time to use it....
Not the best book out there! Sep 20, 2011
By Mr. Georgetown Lake This book will not teach you MATLAB. It is probably not intended for the person with little programming experience, but it still doesn't completely explain MATLAB functions or commands in great detail. You get a brief and simple example for the different types of files and commands. MATLAB can be much more complex. The tutorials with MATLAB will serve you more justice. This book was a waste of money in terms of learning the software from a book. You might as well just buy MATLAB and learn from the turorials and by trial and error.

Waste of Money & No Resell Value May 20, 2011
By Chandra L. Gwin
"college girl"
I had to buy this book for a pass/fail course in which the professor taught us absolutely nothing and expected us to be able to learn everything out of this book. However, it skips some very important things and skims over the others so that you have to reread several times to even get the basic idea. The problems are riddled with errors and I had to use a basic MATLAB book just to follow what Chapra was talking about half the time as this WAS our introduction to MATLAB. On top of all of that, it costs about $150 through Amazon and you can only get a few dollars back for it. It's not worth the $150 and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to buy it back, but that leaves me with a crappy and nearly useless textbook to put with the rest of my unwanted textbooks sitting in the attic.
If you can get away with it, DO NOT waste your money on this book. You will regret it if you do.

Very good shape Oct 07, 2010
By raphaelgich I was impressed by the excellent shape of the book, even though used; and the timeliness of the delivery. I can definitely resell it to my school when I'm done.
